About Stonebrook · Murfreesboro, TN

A Warm, Caring Place to Learn and Grow

For over 20 years, Stonebrook Day School has given Murfreesboro families a place where children are known, valued, and inspired. As the area's only Reggio Emilia-inspired school, set on a 3-acre natural campus, we've built something genuinely different.

Who We Are

Learning that begins with the child

Our faculty and staff are talented, dedicated early childhood professionals who create the warm, caring environment that makes Stonebrook unique. Inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach, our curriculum blends child- and teacher-initiated projects that follow each child's emerging interests, observed through play, photography, and documentation.

We believe children are capable, curious, and full of potential from their very first day. Everything we do, from our natural campus to our project-based classrooms, is built to honor that belief.

What We Stand For

The values behind our school

Child-Led Learning

We follow each child's natural curiosity, building real learning around the questions and interests that already captivate them.

Connection to Nature

Our 3-acre campus is a living classroom, where daily outdoor exploration builds wonder, resilience, and a love of the world.

Family Partnership

Families are a child's first teachers. We welcome parents as active partners in the life of the school and the classroom.

Children's Charter of Rights

Written by the children themselves

Our students created their own charter, describing what they believe every child deserves. Their words say more about who we are than we ever could. Here are a few of them.

"Children have the right to play, explore, and get messy while we learn."

"Children have the right to be listened to, and to share our own ideas."

"Children have the right to spend time outside in nature every day."

"Children have the right to feel safe, cared for, and loved at school."

Our History

Rooted in Murfreesboro since 2003

Stonebrook Day School opened its doors in May 2003, founded by Donna and Rick Smith with a vision for a different kind of early childhood experience, one built on nature, curiosity, and respect for the child.

Over the past two decades, that vision has grown into the school families know today: a 3-acre natural campus and the only Reggio Emilia-inspired program in Murfreesboro. While the school has grown and evolved, its founding belief has never changed.
