Learning How to Learn

A preschool that follows your child's curiosity

The best preschoolers aren't just kept busy, they're genuinely engaged. At Stonebrook, our project-based approach puts children at the center of their own education. Through teacher observations and thoughtfully designed provocations, kids help decide the direction of learning every day. A single study might last days, weeks, or even months, driven entirely by the interests and energy of the children themselves.

Where wonder meets real skills

Preschool at Stonebrook blends open-ended discovery with the academic, social, and emotional foundations your child needs for a confident start in kindergarten.

Project-Based Learning

Rooted in the Reggio Emilia approach, our emergent curriculum lets children actively shape what they explore, turning their natural questions into deep, meaningful studies.

The Classroom as Third Teacher

Our rooms are intentionally designed to feel open and inviting, with natural materials and co-created learning centers that spark wonder, curiosity, and independent discovery.

Nature as a Classroom

In the Natural Playscape and Stonebrook Forest, children learn stewardship of the environment, connect with the natural world, and even tend our school garden.

Kindergarten Readiness

Through creativity, critical thinking, and hands-on problem solving, children build the real confidence and skills they'll carry into kindergarten and every classroom after.

The Reggio Emilia Difference

The classroom as the third teacher

As Murfreesboro's only Reggio Emilia–inspired school, we see the classroom itself as a teacher. Our rooms are organized to feel open and to flow naturally, filled with natural materials that offer an infinite number of possibilities. Learning centers become invitations, co-created by teachers and children to spark and inspire wonder.

This is what project-based, play-based learning really looks like: children actively involved in the direction of their own days, following studies wherever their curiosity leads. It's an approach that builds not just knowledge, but a genuine, lasting love of learning.
